Climbing Area: Spiaggia delle Lucertole
This crag combines the beauty of the location with a with a challenging climb which puts even the very best climbers to the test, requiring a combination of technique and extreme balance.
On Spiaggia delle Lucertole history was made. Forty years ago, the philosophy and techniques of modern sport climbing, previously unknown in Italy were imported from the US by a group of brilliant climbers.
These climbers focused on this compact and polished limestone wall, freeing twenty or so routes at the time considered impossible, all with micro-holds on the vertical wall. The grades are still the ones assigned by those who first freed these routes.
Many routes start a few metres above the water, and the belay station is on iron rungs.
