The Busatte - Tempesta Trail is one of the most well-known and popular hikes in the area, largely thanks to the spectacular metal ladders which make it possible to get past the steepest sections and the marvellous views all along the trail.

The trek leads up a steep mountainside sheer above the lake through dense Mediterranean vegetation. The main feature of this hiking trail are for sure the iron ladders on the steep walls of rock overlooking lake Garda: they counts more than 400 steps, so be ready to climb!

Safety information

The information on this chart is subject to inevitable variations, so this means that none of the indications are absolute. It is not entirely possible to avoid giving inexact or imprecise information, given how quickly environmental and weather conditions can change. For this reason we decline any responsibility for changes which the user may encounter. In any case,  the hiker is advised to check the conditions of the places, environment and weather before setting out.

You need to be wearing the right clothing and take the proper gear when you go hiking in the mountains. Even on relatively short easy outings make sure to take all you need so you don't run into trouble if things take an unexpected turn, for example a storm blows up or you have a sudden drop in energy levels.

What should you take when you go on a hike?

What you should have in your rucksack (for a day trip a 25/30L capacity should do):

  • water canteen (1L)
  • snacks (e.g. mixed dried fruit or chocolate)
  • First aid kit
  • windproof jacket
  • fleece
  • change of t-shirt and socks (in a plastic bag)
  • make sure to wear or at least bring a pair of long trousers
  • hat
  • sun screen
  • sunglasses
  • gloves
  • whistle to attract attention in an emergency
  • emergency telephone number Mountain Rescue 118

Make sure you're wearing the right footwear for the trail and season. The going can get rough and rocky underfoot and a pair of hiking boots will protect you from sprains.

When wet, a grassy slope, rocky slab or steep trail can be dangerous unless you are wearing the proper footwear.

And finally...
... don't forget to bring your camera! You'll need it to capture the stunning views you come across all over Garda Trentino. And if you like, you can share your memories with us at #GardaTrentino.

Turn-by-turn directions

From Park Busatte’s grassy area you head off for a spectacular hike along the Busatte–Tempesta trail, a  nature route overhanging the lake which winds for 4 km and includes flights of metal stairs with a total of  400 steps.  The route is mostly even with two climbs: Corno di Bò and Salt de la Cavra. This 90 minute hike through  wonderful scenery, right above the lake in the midst of nature, flowers and geological phenomena, leads  you to Tempesta. From here the trip back to Torbole can be made aboard a bus of the A.P.T.V. line.  It is also possible to walk back to Torbole: at the junction with the road leading down to Tempesta, just go  up the road till you reach againg the Busatte - Tempesta path near the first stairs.

Questions & answers

Question of Gerard Versseput · September 10, 2019 · Community
My wife is blind and Wales with her guidedog. Can she do this trail?

Answer by Valentina Bellotti · September 10, 2019 · Garda Trentino
Hello Mr. Versseput, the trail in general is not difficult, but there are more than 400 steps on metal ladders, so it depends on her confidence with walking on different surfaces. Moreover, the ladders are made of a metal grill so we know that some dogs can have problems with the feeling of emptiness. I hope this is helpful!

Hallo.

Nice walk with great views. The Torbole end you do have a bit of a steep walk up from the town if you don't park at the car park at the top. If you do park at the top then you have a climb at the end.... The walk itself is all on either gravel or metal stairs and to give you an idea I passed a school party of 7 year olds. At the Tempeste end turn right to get to the bus stop which is maybe 5 mins walk. The buses are hourly in the day and cost 2.10 into Torbole. If you have to wait for a while then walk past the bus stop, cross the road, go down the little lane on the left until the big gates and there is a gate on the right into a tiny little public beach where you can sit and dangle your hot feet into the cooling lake. It is about 5 mins walk from the bus stop. I found that Google maps prediction for the bus arrival time was precisely accurate which is reassuring.
