Equipment

Riding your bike requires specific clothing and equipment, even for relatively short and easy trips. It is always better to be prepared… e.g. for bad weather or a drop your energy levels. The unexpected things also make up a part of the fun!

Remember to throughly evaluate the type of route you plan to do, the locations you plan to cross and the current season. Has it been raining? Attention: The paths may be slippery and require more caution.

  • Bike lights: best placed on your helmet or handlebars. (It is always best to be prepared)
  • Bike repair kit for punctures and mechanical breakdowns

Turn-by-turn directions

The departure point is the Garda Trentino tourist office situated near the post office in Riva del Garda. Take the first right and turn into Viale Rovereto. Continue straight for about 600 metres until you come to the Hotel Luise on your left. Pass the hotel, cross the street at the pedestrian crossing and head north along the cycle path which is right in front of you. The cycle path is on the flat and presents no difficulties. Continue along the cycle path without taking any of the turn-offs for about 2.5 kilometres. At the traffic lights cross the street and continue to the next stop sign where you turn right into via Fornasetta. At the end of the road you come to another traffic light. Go straight on along the main road which leads to Ceole. Go down via Dante Alighieri until you come to the convent Convento delle Grazie. Turn left at the stop sign onto the main road and shortly after turn left again into via Vittorio Veneto. You are cycling on an asphalt road. Stay on this road as it rises in the direction of Padaro. As you climb you are surrounded by olive groves, this being an area famous for the production of oil. Halfway up on your left you can see the ancient olive tree “olif del bottes”, which is about 900 years old. Continue on up and take the second road on the right. The road now descends as far as the placche di Baone slabs, an area which is famous for sports climbing and the first crag in the world to be bolted for paraclimbing (climbing for the disabled). Here you are faced with a short rise before you come back down to the right. You pass through the olive groves of Arco before returning to the asphalt surface of via Lomego. At the end of the road, right on the bend, there is the entrance to the Arco arboretum, a public garden which is well worth a visit. Now head downhill. Turn into via Vergolano, the first road on the left, which will lead you through the centre of Arco to the main piazza. From here you can follow directions for the cycle path in the direction of Torbole. Access to the cycle path is from behind the sports pitch and tennis club of Arco. Follow the entire stretch along the River Sarca. At the mouth of the river, turn right in the direction of Riva del Garda, continuing along the cycle path which at this point follows the beach. When you reach the harbour of San Nicolò, follow the cycle path directions along the lake shore back to the point of departure.
